Imagine this: you're super excited to start your health and fitness journey - or you're really excited about your next workout but when you go into your drawer to pull out an old t-shirt that has rips and stains all over it, maybe you change your mind on the workout all together, because referring back to previous workouts - maybe you hated how frumpy and unattractive your workout attire was. Or maybe, if you're just starting out and you're reaching for that old t-shirt, you think "I don't want anyone to see me in this." "Maybe I'll go shopping for new workout clothes later." And the latter of excuses start to pile on.
We've all been there!
I'll give you a great example. When I first started my health and fitness journey (the first time around, while I was trying to lose all of the weight for my wedding). It was my first real go at working out. And I didn't have activewear. So I would personally wear old t-shirts while working out. I felt baggy and blah. Especially after sweating. I was working out from home at the time, so I guess I didn't really care if anyone saw me - but then I wanted to start incorporating outside workouts into my routine as well.
I really wanted to love running.
I tried and I failed SO many times. More times than I can count honestly.
I. Just. Hate. It and can't push myself past the point of thinking how much it sucks. (It's still on my to do list - to find a better solution on how to actually enjoy and stay motivated with running.)
So one day I went shopping and filled the cart up with activewear. I'm pretty sure I went to Burlington because if you've never been there before to check out their activewear section: I highly recommend it. It's affordable and you can find a lot of really cute things.
Having cute workout clothes to throw on instead of a baggy t-shirt was a game changer! It was like the holy grail of confidence. It just made me want to show up. To do what I needed to do and I felt GOOD about it.
I think another really great thing about cute workout clothes is, once your body starts changing and you see it in clothing you're already happy to wear: it's EVEN more motivation. It's like the mirror is talking to you and saying "Yesss girl, you're a badass. Keep killing it." I mean, how could you not want to keep going when you feel and see the results.
And the really great thing is, you can find activewear just about anywhere nowadays.
- Places like Walmart and Target always usually have a small section of activewear on their floors. Everything from shorts, leggings, tees, tanks and sometimes if you're lucky, running jackets too.
- Burlington is literally a gem when it comes to activewear finds. I mentioned it above and I am mentioning it here too because they will ALWAYS have a large number of items in different sizes available. Not only is everything really cute, but it's also super affordable too.
- Activewear companies online: there are SO MANY! The only thing that I suggest with this one is to be sure you read the companies reviews first before placing your order. There's a lot of scammers out there (I've been a victim multiple times) - that take your money and either won't ship your item / you'll never see it arrive to your house. Or, it's very poorly made and runs super small and in this case NOT worth your money. Always thoroughly read the reviews.
- It seems like a lot of online fashion boutiques are starting to offer activewear into their collection - and why wouldn't they? It's a great addition:) but we do have some things to mention: For starters, you may be paying a bit more of a higher price for just ONE item. This can get costly if you choose to continue buying your activewear from the same boutique. The quality and the material isn't always the best. Just because you see a higher price tag label and a reputable boutique name, does not mean the activewear is going to be the best you'll ever find. In my experience, shopping at boutiques for activewear has been a disaster. Sizes run small, and when it comes to leggings, the material always feels weird on my skin. I highly suggest checking out the products size chart and measurements guide if the boutique offers one. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Reach out to the company if you need too, and always check out the reviews. One last thing about this option: in most cases boutiques will not refund you. They will have you try to return or exchange your item in exchange for store credit. This is almost always in the fine print, so unless you're totally okay with this - ask questions.
Working out in clothes that make you feel sexy, confident and excited to go to the gym is crucial. If you feel amazing, your workout will be amazing. If you're wearing clothes that make you feel anything but, your energy levels will dip. Your confidence will go way down and you'll lose all motivation to bit the gym next time.
Remember that's it's not about what's in style but what feels good for you! What makes you feel happy and confident. What gives you that push, that edge, that "YESSS girl", that you needed. When you find that, nothing can stop you now!
See ya later!
